Birdfeeder War

When I first got my pond I wanted bird feeders to attract birds to listen to while relaxing at the pond.  So I told my Mom I wanted a bird feeder.  Well she agreed to get me one so we went to WalMaart and bought one.  Well after seeing all the pretty birds that came to my yard she decided she wanted one too for her yard so we went back and she bought one.  Well as soon as I hung her feeder, she got the song birds and I got the crows! AARRGGGGG!!!
Then I went online and found out if I got thistle seed I would attract Finches.  So I asked my Mom to buy me a Thistle Seed Sock.  She said NO I didn't need two bird feeders.  No matter how hard I tried she wouldn't get it.  So when I got paid, I bought me a thistle seed sock.  Well  about an hour after hanging it, she called me and wanted me to look out my front door and tell her what the beautiful yellow birds were in HER tree!AARRGGGG!!  So then she decided she wanted a thistle seed sock and wanted me to take her to buy one.  Well I told her No she didn't need more than one bird feeder but she won and I took her to Wal Mart so she could buy her one.  So once again she stole my birds and I had to hang it for her to boot!!
And if this wasn't enough, I wanted a hummingbird feeder.  Once again she said No so I waited until I got paid and bought one.  Well as soon as she saw the hummingbirds fighting over the feeder she had to have a hummingbird feeder as well.  So I took her to Wal Mart and she bought one, I hung it, and she got my hummingbirds and I got the ants and bees!DOUBLE AARRGGGG!!!!!
So this became the family joke.  I got the ideas on how to attract different birds, hung the feeders and she got all the birds and I got the crows, bees and ants.  And every day she would laugh at me because they liked her yard best.  I told her it wasn't fair that I did all the work and she stole all my birds and left me with the crows, bees and ants and she just laughed at me.  These are some of the precious moments I spent with my Mom that I will never forget!  Until next time...

My New Pond

For the history of my pond you can scroll down and read the last two posts.  My pond cracked about 3 years ago and we had to shut it down.  Well this year we rebuilt the pond but we couldn't get one as large as the other so my darling hubby planned a new design and I love it too.  Here's the waterfall.  The tub we had at the top of the pond was too big for this pond so Chester put a liner in the foundation and made it come down around the gravel.  Beautiful!!

This is the first statue I got.  I convinced my Mom I really needed these angels so I could listen to her beautiful music while I relaxed at my pond!!.LOL

This is the second statue I got.  I convinced my Mom that I needed this little girl so I would have someone to tell my secrets to and she would never tell anyone else.(insane huh?) LOL

I bought this statue because I thought he was just too cute!!  After all, every pond needs a fisherman!  I accused my brother, Mike, of teaching him how to fish because his line stays tangled up in the brush.LOL

And here are the two bird baths that the birds play in.  Chester bought me the mushroom for Mother's Day and Buster bought me the other one several years ago because I had to have it!  Have you figured out I'm a little spoiled?LOL

And here is a plaque that I bought at Hobby Lobby because I thought it was just perfect to put in the pond area.  At night you can hear crickets and frogs filling the air with music for everyone to enjoy.

To read the first story about my pond just scroll down and read the post below this.  You will get a good laugh.  There are more to come.  Until next time...

Brittany's disbelief

When I first got my pond, Brittany (my niece), helped me put up my first bird feeder. She was about 13 then. Then my Mom, Britt and I were going to town. When we walked out the door, one bird was sitting on top of the feeder singing way loud. I looked at Britt and said "Look Bree, he's inviting his friends for breakfast". Well since they think I live in my own little world of insanity, she just said "Right Gram" and then turned around and there were about 15 birds on the feeder. Well, Britt looked at my Mom and said "Meme, I need to go home, because they are doing what she said". Then we drove up the hill and a squirrel was going to the road. I stopped the car, rolled down my window, clapped my hands and yelled at the squirrel and said "Hey, you get back down there before you get run over". Britt said, "Oh my gosh Meme, she's telling the squirrels what to do now." And right then the squirrel stopped, looked at me and made a sassy sound. Then Britt said, "Oh my Gawd, Meme it's answering her". So then I clapped my hands and said,"Don't you sass me or I'll bust your butt. Now get back to the house". The squirrel stopped, turned his head and then turned around and went back to the house. Britt screamed, "Meme, it's doing what she said, I want to go home before I am as crazy as her." Well I laughed so hard, I cried and my Mom just said, " Valerie you shouldn't do this to these kids", but she was laughing too. Hope you enjoy my pond tales because I have plenty more that I will be adding. God bless you.

Enjoy my pond

While growing up, I had a favorite creek on my Grandpa's farm that I visited when troubled arout something. I loved sitting there watching the water trickle down and around the rocks, with minnows playing it it. And after a while, all my worries seemed to disappear and the world seemed a better place. After my Papa died, I told my husband that I missed my creek. Then one day about 12 years ago, out of the blue, my husband and niece built me a pond with a waterfall that reminded me of my creek. I was thrilled.
Since I lived next door to my Mom, the pond became our hangout. We sat there for hours every day listening to the birds singing, watching the squirrels cause havoc and listening to the water trickle down and around the rocks with our fish playing in the clear water. This was our heaven on earth where everything was peaceful and serene. And when my kids had worries, I would convince them to go to the pond so they could forget their problems and even though they didn't always believe me, they admitted that they did always feel better after a trip to the pond with me.
My Mom died four years ago and I miss her every day, but I especially miss our time at the pond. It just doesn't seem the same without her with me. But I can still go there when troubled or stressed and come away feeling better.
So when the world has stressed you out, feel free to visit my pond and see if it helps you come away feeling relaxed and refreshed

This is where I go to unwind, think and relax. Hope you enjoy your visit here too.

This is the waterfall that I love to here trickling down. It is such a peaceful sound
Chester saved me this rock when he built the pond so that I could let my kids write their names on it. So we painted flowers on it and each child signed it in their on special way. As you can tell, I love my kids.

This little angel knows this friend will never tell her secrets.

Here are my three frogs to remind everyone that at Gram's pond you see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil because this is a place where everyone enjoys God's beauty.
Three of my grandkids and my niece bought me azalea bushes for Mother's Day so I planted a small flower garden around my pond and added a bird bath and some statutes. I just love the lazy look this flower bed has.
Here is my bird haven. I have attracted cardinals, bluejays, woodpeckers, chickadees, finch, mockingbirds and some that I don't know what they are. Oh and don't let me forget the crows and squirrels. The music never stops at my pond. The birds are singing from daylight until dark and it is so beautiful
